The community of Rathduff and surrounding areas supplied by the Rathduff Reservoir is set to reap the rewards with Uisce Éireann recently commencing works to drive down leakage and provide a more reliable water.
In total 2 kilometres of old and damaged water mains, prone to frequent bursts will be replaced with modern pipes between the Rathduff Pumping Station and Rathduff Reservoir as part of these works.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: “This project is a key part of Uisce Éireann’s efforts to improve the national water infrastructure. By replacing these old water mains, we will significantly reduce drinking water loss by leakage and conserve this vital resource. These improvements are crucial for supporting communities like Rathduff to thrive and ensuring a more secure and reliable water supply for years to come. I would like to thank the community for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works”
The works will be carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by the summer.
Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
