Works begin to reduce leaks in Shronell

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

As well as recently welcoming the Liam McCarthy Cup, the community of Shronell and surrounding areas can continue celebrating as they are set to enjoy a more secure and reliable water supply, with Uisce Éireann due to begin works to reduce high levels of leakage in the area.

Almost 5.3km of aged water mains will be replaced between Mount Bruis and Shronell as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Uisce Éireann is committed to improving water services across the county, and this investment in Tipperary will result in a more secure and robust water supply for the local community.

Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this important project underway for the community.

“Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged watermains.

“These improvements are crucial for supporting communities in Tipperary to thrive and will ensure a more resilient water supply for years to come. In advance of the works commencing, we would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as we carry out these essential works.”

The works will be carried out by Shareridge Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann and will start in late August and are expected to be completed by early 2026.

Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
