Water Network Upgrades Flowing Ahead in Tullow Town

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

With school holidays underway, Uisce Éireann is making solid progress on vital upgrades to Tullow’s water infrastructure, replacing ageing pipes and tackling leakage to ensure a stronger, more reliable supply. These efforts aim to cut down on water leakage and provide a more dependable, long-term supply for the local community.

The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme, involves the replacement of more than 2.1km of aging water mains which have been prone to bursts and high levels of leakage with new modern pipes, with 850 metres of mains replaced so far.

These upgrades will significantly reduce water loss, improve pressure, and enhance the overall resilience of the water network serving homes and businesses in the area.

To date Uisce Éireann has completed all main laying works on N81 - Bridge Street, Market Square and Church St. Public side connection works on these streets is still ongoing and will continue until mid-summer.

Upgrades on Upper Mill Street are now complete, with the old mains pipe scheduled for decommissioning shortly.

Work on Old Chapel Lane is nearing completion, with crews set to move to Bishop Street, which will be closed until Friday, June 20.

Speaking about the works, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are committed to delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities across Ireland.  These ongoing works in Tullow Town are part of that effort, ensuring fewer disruptions, improved water quality, and a network that’s fit for the future.

We’re delighted with the progress made on this project and would like to thank the people of Tullow for their continued patience and support as these essential works continue.  The project remains on track to be completed by September 2025”.

The works are being carried on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge.

Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the national Leakage Reduction Programme.

Uisce Éireann is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 – fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply. Uisce Éireann is on target to reduce the national rate of leakage to 25% by 2030, from a high point of 46% in 2018.
