Thomastown, Golden and Kilfeakle and surrounding areas are continuing to benefit from leakage reduction works, leading to a more reliable water supply thanks to Uisce Éireann’s Leakage Reduction Programme. Almost 3.5km of old and damaged water main has been replaced to date, with another 2.7km of pipeline to be upgraded over the coming weeks.
Uisce Éireann is committed to improving water services across the county and this investment in Thomastown will result in a more robust and reliable water supply for the local community.
The next phase of works will involve the replacement of 2.7km of old and damaged water main from Ballymacaddy on L4306 and finishing at the bridge at Ballyglasheen junction of L4306 & L4209.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: “This project is a key part of Uisce Éireann’s efforts to improve the water infrastructure in Tipperary. By replacing these old water mains, we will significantly reduce drinking water loss by leakage and conserve this vital resource.”
“These improvements are crucial for supporting communities like Thomastown to thrive and will ensure a more secure and reliable water supply for years to come. I would like to thank the community for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works.”
The works will be carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by late summer.
In addition, almost 3.5km of aged cast iron water mains was recently replaced with new modern pipes. This took place along the L4306 from the junction with N74 to Rathduff, while a section of water mains was also replaced between the L4306 at Rathduff and Athassell Abbey.
Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
