Locals in Creegh are tapping into an improved water network as upgrade completes

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

The charming community in Alva, Creegh, can reap the rewards of a more reliable water supply as Uisce Éireann complete upgrade works, replacing over 800m of aged water mains with new pipes.

This work will also help secure the village’s water supply and reduce high levels of leakage in the area.

Speaking about the project, Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are thrilled to be completing this project, which will ensure a more sustainable water supply for the community. The replacement of these old, damaged pipes will have a positive impact on leakage by significantly lowering the instances of bursts and supply disruptions along the network, providing a more secure water supply for years to come.

We would like to extend our thanks to the community for their patience and support as we depart for locals to enjoy the peak of the summer season, with exciting activities in the area such as the Rose of Clare.”

Following the completion of the works, it is necessary to reinstate the permanent road surface, and these works will be programmed and carried out in due course by Uisce Éireann in partnership with Clare County Council.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. carried out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

This project was delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, provision of a more resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.

Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the national Leakage Reduction Programme. Uisce Éireann is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 - fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply. Uisce Éireann is on target to reduce the national rate of leakage to 25% by 2030, from 46% in 2018.
