Campile community to benefit from improved, more dependable water supply
Families and businesses in Campile can look forward to a stronger, more dependable water supply as Uisce Éireann wraps up important upgrade works on the local water network. These improvements are all about supporting everyday life in the community, whether it’s putting the kettle on in the morning, running a local business, or keeping community services flowing smoothly with clean, reliable water.
As part of this project, we replaced over 1.85km of ageing water mains with modern, resilient pipes. These older pipes had been prone to bursts and leaks, causing supply interruptions and wasting treated drinking water, a precious resource.
The upgraded water network now brings greater reliability to homes and businesses in Campile.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD from Wexford welcomed news of the completed works. “This is critical news for the people of Campile who will benefit from a more reliable water supply through these upgrades to the pipe network. I want to see more of this. We know that having a reliable water supply is fundamental to family and community life. With upgrade works by Uisce Éireann now complete in the town, I’m pleased to see further progress on improvements to Wexford’s water supply and I am committed to getting further projects across the line locally.”
Uisce Éireann’s Dave Murphy is delighted to have delivered another project for customers in Wexford. “This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive.
“We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience during these works, some remaining reinstatement works will be completed in the coming weeks.”
Shareridge Ltd. delivered the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann works every day to reduce leaks. With more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationally- enough to circle the earth one and a half times - fixing leaks can be complicated. Many are hidden, but we are making progress: national leakage is now at its lowest ever, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36%.
This project was delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, provision of a more resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.
