Growth and Development Programme - Maynooth Transfer Pipeline Project
Uisce Éireann is delivering a project to upgrade the wastewater network to enable growth and development in Maynooth and Kilcock.
The Maynooth Transfer Pipeline Project involves the construction of a pipeline between the existing Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station and Leixlip Wastewater Treatment Plant. Upgrade works are also required to the Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station.
This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. Construction of the new pipeline along with the required upgrade works to the Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station will improve the capacity of the existing wastewater network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.
Delivered through Uisce Éireann's national Growth and Development Programme, the project represents a €24 million investment, and will provide the required wastewater network capacity to enable the development of an additional 11,500 housing units in Maynooth and Kilcock.
The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey Construction and are expected to be completed in 2027.
What is involved in this project?
Construction of 9 kilometres of new sewer pipeline from Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station at Dunboyne Road, to Confey in Leixlip.
Upgrades to the existing Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station.

What's happening now?
The next phase of works involves the continuation of pipeline installation along the L1014. To deliver these works safely and efficiently, Kildare County Council have granted a 24-hour road closure as follows:
L1014 Kellystown from its junction with the L5050 at Catherinstown to the L1015 junction at Kellystown
From Monday, 10 November to Saturday 06 December 2025.
Traffic flows will be diverted during this time with local access and emergency services access only.

Diversions
- R157 bound road users will be diverted to stay on the R157 at the L1014 / R157 junction for a further 1.1km until you come to the junction of L5050 Dunboyne Road. Turn right onto the L5050 to follow the diversion for 1km which will bring you to the end of the closure.
- L1014 bound, closure starts at the junction L1014 / L1015 at Kellystown, the diversion will begin with a left-hand turn. You will follow this diversion for 1km when you reach the junction of R148 / L1014 near Deey Bridge. Turn right here onto the R148. Follow the diversion for a further 3km and turn right onto the R157 where this will bring you to the end of the closure.
HGV Diversions
- HGV’s coming from the east will be diverted to stay on R157 a further 5km. The diversion will come to the Castlefarm roundabout where you will turn left (first exit) to stay on the R157, a further 1.2km the diversion will come to the Summerhill roundabout and diverted traffic are to take the second exit to stay on the R157. Another 1.4km at the Bennetstown roundabout the diverted traffic to proceed at the first exit to continue on the R157, another 1km will bring you to the M3 turn off, from here you will follow the road and take the second exit to bring you to the R157/R147 roundabout where diverted traffic will take a right (second exit). The diversion will continue for another 2.5km past Bracetown where the next roundabout where signage will divert HGV’s to take the first exit heading towards Clonee, a further 300m at the M3 / R147 / R156 roundabout diverted traffic will take the 3rd exit bringing them onto the R156. Stay on the R156 for 200m and turn right onto the R149 Clonee Road. Follow the diversion for 4km to reach the end of the road closure.
- West diverted HGVs are to follow the R149, the diversion will continue a further 4km, they will first reach the R156 roundabout and be diverted to take the left turn R156 road (first exit), from here the diversion will continue 200m to the M3 / R147 / R157 roundabout, the diverted traffic are to take the first exit onto the R147. A further 300m the diverted traffic and to take the (second exit) and stay on the R147. From here the diversion continues 2.5km past Bracetown, at the R147 / R157 roundabout the traffic will turn left onto the R157. At the M3 turn off the diverted traffic will take the (second exit) to stay on the R157, from here at the Bennetstown roundabout the diverted traffic to proceed at the (second exit) to continue on the R157 a further 2.5km the diverted traffic will take the second exit at the Summerhill roundabout. Another 1.4km to the Castlefarm roundabout where the diverted traffic will turn right (second exit) to stay on the R157. A further 5km will bring you to the end of the closure.
Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access and restricted local access will be maintained.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
