What does the project involve?

The works involve the upgrading and upsizing of over 1.1 km of water mains on McDermott Street and will be carried out by Farrans Construction on Uisce Éireann’s behalf. The project will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to the local community. Phase 1 works are due to commence in mid-November 2025 and will last until mid-December. Phase 2 works are due to commence in Late
Spring / Summer 2026. Traffic management in the form of traffic lights will be in place for Phase 1 of the works. Further details on Phase 2 will be discussed in advance of the works moving to construction in early 2026.

What are the benefits of the works?

These critical upgrades are being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, a national programme of targeted investment to increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure to enable social/economic growth and development, including the delivery of essential housing.

The benefits of these water network works include:

  • Improving the water network – This project will upgrade the water network, increasing the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality water services.
  • Supporting social and economic development – This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
  • Improving the water infrastructure to facilitate future demand – This project will ensure the required capacity of the water infrastructure to support future development in the area.

Will customers be affected by the works?

To deliver these water network upgrade works safely and efficiently, traffic management will be required. Impacted stakeholders will be notified directly and we endeavour to keep the local community updated as this project progresses. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

The works may also involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
