Works set to commence to improve water supply for community in Dundrum
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann’s commitment to improve water supply across Tipperary continues, with works set to get underway on a critical project that will see a more secure and reliable water supply for local homes and businesses in the Dundrum area.
The investment in the local water network involves installing nearly 7km of new water mains, which will deliver water from Thurles to the Boherlahan and Dundrum areas. This will improve supply reliability and support the growth of the local community.
The new pipeline will run from Holycross to the existing pumping station in Gaile which serves the Killough reservoir. An upgrade to modernise the pumping station will also be completed as part of these improvement works.
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on the local community. To deliver the project safely and efficiently, a phased road closure is required along the L4162 Galbertstown road from its junction with the R659 Thurles to Holycross Road, to the junction with the L1309 at Regaile. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann’s Laura Heneghan said: “We are delighted to be delivering this critical water supply project for local homes and businesses across Dundrum. This investment will not only improve the resilience of the water supply but will allow for future growth in the area.
“New, modern water infrastructure will ensure security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience.
“We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works.”
Mallwood Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be finished by Summer 2026.
This project is part of the ongoing programme of works to rationalise small water supplies, improving security and reliability across the country.
Dundrum is the latest Tipperary community to benefit with over 10km of new water mains recently constructed to rationalise several small supplies, serving Uisce Éireann customers in Littleton, Horse & Jockey, Upperchurch, Glengar, Cappawhite and Two Mile Borris currently underway.
