Works progressing to deliver essential upgrades to enable new homes in the Navan area

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann continues to invest in infrastructure in Meath to enable the delivery of essential housing and support growing communities.

The Farganstown Wastewater Project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s national Growth and Development Programme and commenced at the end of 2025. This vital project will increase the capacity of the wastewater network to enable the development of 1,600 new homes in the short term, while also allowing for significant further development in the longer term.

The works involve the construction of a new wastewater pumping station and 2.4km of sewer pipeline to cater for the future growth and development of the wider Navan area. The project is now 8 months into a 2-year construction programme with approximately 25% of works completed to date.

As part of the next phase of works, a temporary road closure is needed on the L3400 Boyne Road in Navan to carry out essential works. The closure will run from the junction with the R153 to the junction with the L50521 (Haystown).

The road will be closed for three months, from Monday, 29 June 2026 until the end of September. Clearly signposted diversion routes will be in place, and local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Speaking about the works, Padraic Fitzgerald, Uisce Éireann, said:

“These works are needed to support new homes and future growth in Meath. We understand that temporary road closures can be inconvenient, and we want to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank the community for their patience while this important work is carried out.”

The works will be carried out in phases to reduce disruption, and the site team will contact residents in advance of works near their properties.

The project is being delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities and is expected to be completed in late 2027. Uisce Éireann understands that works of this nature can be disruptive and will keep the community informed throughout the works including updates on planned traffic management.  Uisce Éireann thanks residents, businesses and road users for their patience during these works.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
