Works commences as part of essential upgrade to Askeaton Wastewater Treatment Plant

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is commencing the design stage of a new wastewater treatment plant project to upgrade the wastewater facilities in Askeaton, to cater for the future growth and development of the area and improve the water quality in the river Deel. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme.

The site investigation works are due to commence early next week and will take approximately eight weeks to complete and will inform and support the development of designs for the planned upgrade and the planning application. When complete, Uisce Éireann will then advance the required statutory and regulatory approvals for the new infrastructure necessary to support social and economic growth, including the provision of housing.

The project design team have scoped the necessary works to advance the design stage of the project. They include bore holes, ground penetration radar, trial pits and slit trenches.

These works will occur along the R518, Main Street, The Quay and in the vicinity of the existing pump station - between the tennis courts and the swimming pool.

Traffic management will be in place during this time to carry out the works safely and efficiently in the form of Stop/Go Systems. During the months of August and September our crews will carry out these works during the below hours.

The permitted hours of work are 6.30pm to 11pm, Monday to Thursday, 7pm-11pm on Friday, 9am-12 Noon and 6.30pm-8pm on Saturdays and 9am-8pm on Sundays.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Angus Hall explained that the proposed new wastewater treatment plant project is a significant investment for the area and investigative works are necessary to progress the project to the next stage.

“Site investigations are crucial for Uisce Éireann projects to ensure the best possible design and construction outcomes. They provide valuable data for determining the feasibility and impact of proposed wastewater infrastructure. Completion of the Askeaton Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project will deliver a fit-for-purpose treatment facility for generations to come allowing the local community to thrive.”
“We would like to thank customers and the community in advance for their cooperation and patience while we work to undertake these essential works,” said Mr Hall.
