West End, Galway City mains replacement works progressing on schedule

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is reminding customers in Galway City that ongoing mains replacement works will necessitate the closure of Raleigh Row to traffic.

The closure of Raleigh Row (L-5110-0) will take place from Monday next, 30 June, until Friday, 1 August, to allow for the next stage of works in a programme of mains replacement being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The first stage of these works has required the closure of Palmyra Park to traffic since 9 June. However, works at Palmyra Park are almost complete and the road is set to reopen to traffic from tomorrow evening (Friday, 27 June).

To facilitate the closure of Raleigh Row, traffic diversions will be in place. The diversion route will be via Small Crane, Sea Road, The Crescent and Palmyra Park.

Uisce Éireann acknowledges that these traffic diversions may cause some inconvenience for local road-users, but they are necessary to ensure the safety of work crews and road-users while work is underway. Local and emergency access will always be maintained.

This programme of works is being carried out to provide a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water for homes and businesses in the area, and to drive down rates of leakage on the network.

Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, said that good progress is being made on the project and thanked local residents and road-users for their ongoing cooperation.

“We are making good headway on this programme of mains replacement, and as we move into the next stage of works in the Raleigh Row area, we wish to thank residents for their patience and understanding as we progress these essential upgrades,” said Enda.

The works are being carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
