We are appealing to customers in Ahascragh and the surrounding areas to conserve water in an effort to protect supply.
The appeal comes as a result of a prolonged dry spell which has affected water levels in the Ahascragh River, which supplies the Ahascragh Water Treatment Plant. The plant supplies water for approximately 800 customers in the area.
Uisce Éireann’s Ger Greally has asked customers in Ahascragh and its hinterlands to be mindful of their usage while supply levels recharge.
“The long spell of dry weather in recent weeks has caused levels in the Ahascragh River to decrease and as a result, we are appealing to customers in Ahascragh to be mindful of their water usage in the coming days,” said Ger.
“We are putting preparations in place today to supplement the water supply by tankering water from a neighbouring scheme. This action will assist in maintaining supply, but customers may still experience low pressures and water outages over the weekend."
“It’s important that we all consider our water usage and look at simple yet impactful ways to conserve water. It can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but even small changes can make a significant difference,” Ger continued.
For more simple ways to conserve water, check out the Uisce Éireann conservation calculator which can help people work out how much water they are currently using and how they can conserve even more.
