Water supply returning to normal for customers supplied by Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews completed repair works to the raw water main that supplies Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant following a significant burst.
The Water Treatment Plant is operating and supply is returning to impacted customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Alternative water supplies are currently in place at Marlfield Village, Clerihan Village, Ardfinnan National School, Knocklofty and Newchapel. We will monitor the requirement of these alternative water supplies and retain those where issues supply persist.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Reservoir levels on the Ardfinnan Supply remain low following the burst. As a result, overnight restrictions are required to allow reservoirs to recover and to maintain a daytime supply.

Starting tonight, Wednesday, 10 September,  overnight restrictions will be in place from 10pm until 7am each night until Tuesday, 16 September at 7am for all customers in Newcastle, Frehans, Ballyveera, Poulatar, Ballybacon, Monroe East, Shanakill, Neddans, Roosca Miles, Ballybrado, Loughlohery, Derrygrath, Rathkeevin, Loughtally, Nicholastown, Newchapel, Knocklofty, Marlfield, Clerihan, Red City and surrounding areas in Co. Tipperary.

Uisce Éireann continues to appeal to customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply to be mindful of their water usage and to make all efforts to conserve water where possible.

Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty said: “We appreciate the patience of the local communities across the Ardfinnan Regional Supply as our teams worked to repair the burst and restore normal service. We also understand the inconvenience nighttime restrictions can cause to communities; however, they are essential to maintain a daytime water supply for homes and businesses while we allow reservoir levels time to recover.”

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a significant burst to the raw water main that supplies the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant which serves customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Public Water Supply Scheme.

The burst is affecting production at the plant resulting in water supply disruption for customers in Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Ardfinnan, Jamestown, Marlfield, Neddens,  Loughryan, Loughlher, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Newchaplel, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knocklofty, Grauige Group Water Scheme, Castlegrace, Clerihan Village, Lisronan, Red City and the surrounding areas.

Crews are on site working to repair the burst. It is estimated that repairs will be complete this evening. However, as reservoir levels were low before the burst occurred, following issues at the water treatment plant over the past week it is estimated that normal supply may not be restored to all customers until tomorrow, 10 September.

Alternative Water Supplies are in place at Ardfinnan National School and Clerihan Village.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

The Boil Water Notice for all customers supplied by the Ardfinnan Regional Supply Scheme remains in place. The notice was put in place on 4 September to protect the health of almost 11,500 customers following high levels of turbidity in the raw water source at the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant. Testing has shown the presence of cryptosporidium therefore the boil water notice will remain in place at this time.

Uisce Éireann’s Jim Fitzgerald said “We understand the inconvenience of this unplanned outage and thank customers for their support while our crews work to repair this significant burst and restore normal supply. We also acknowledge the inconvenience of the Boil Water Notice on the local community and assure those impacted that we are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to lift the notice.”
