Water supply returning to customers in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird and surrounds following power outage

19 June 2026

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning to customers served by the treatment plant in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird following a power outage. Power has been restored to the plant and water is once again being pumped into the network.

While supply is returning, it may take a number of hours for reservoirs to fully recover and for normal supply to be restored to all homes and businesses in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird, Port Nua, Ros Beag and surrounding areas.

Uisce Éireann crews have been working closely with ESB to restore operations at the plant and minimise disruption to customers.

Uisce Éireann’s Adrian Gillespie thanked the communities impacted for their understanding: “We understand the inconvenience caused by this unplanned outage and thank customers for their patience.”

Customers in some areas may continue to experience some low pressure as the network refills this evening.

Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann will continue to receive direct communications. For updates, customers can visit the website, follow @IWCare on X, or contact the 24/7 customer care helpline on 1800 278 278.

Previous Update

Uisce Éireann customers supplied by the treatment plant in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird may experience a disruption to their water supply this morning due to a power cut in the area.

As there is currently no power to the plant, water is not being pumped out into the network.

Our teams are liaising with the ESB and making any necessary adjustments to storage levels; however, it’s expected customers in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird, Port Nua, Ros Beag and the surrounding areas may soon be affected by lower pressure or a disruption to supply.

Adrian Gillespie of Uisce Éireann assured customers that every effort is being made to reduce the risk of an outage.

We understand the inconvenience caused by an unplanned outage such as this and thank customers for their patience.”

Power supply is expected to be restored to the plant later this morning. Once it is operational, it can take a number of hours for the network to refill and a full supply restored to all customers.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Uisce Éireann is committed to keeping customers informed across multiple platforms 24/7 and we encourage customers to engage with us through our website, X channels @IWCare and through our customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
