Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Water is now returning to homes and businesses in Kilmainham, Inchicore, Ballyfermot, Walkinstown, Long Mile Road, and surrounding communities after Uisce Éireann crews successfully completed an overnight valve installation in the area to help protect supplies for 50,000 people.
The valve installation was carried out in a planned and controlled manner and will significantly reduce the risk of a major burst and a much more significant unplanned disruption in the future.
Keith Conmy, Water Network Operational Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: “We are very grateful to everyone affected for their patience and understanding while this necessary work was carried out and we are pleased to have supply returning. Community support and cooperation make a real difference.”
Customers may experience lower than normal pressure, temporary discolouration or intermittent supply for a short period while the network refills. This is normal and should improve as the system stabilises.
Our teams will continue to monitor the network closely to ensure supply returns to normal across all affected areas. Vulnerable customers who are registered with us receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann is notifying customers that our crews are carrying out critical overnight works Friday night, 25 September, through to Saturday morning, 26 September to help protect drinking water supplies for more than 50,000 people in Kilmainham, Inchicore, Ballyfermot, Walkinstown, Long Mile Road, Black Horse Bridge and surrounding communities.
We have identified a number of damaged pipelines that require a valve installation in order to carry out an uninterrupted repair at a later stage. Carrying out the works in a planned and controlled manner will significantly reduce the likelihood of a sudden burst and the widespread disruption that could follow.
To minimise disruption to customers, the repair has been scheduled overnight on Friday to Saturday morning when water demand is typically at its lowest. Customers in Kilmainham, Inchicore, Ballyfermot, Walkinstown, Long Mile Road and Black Horse Bridge and surrounding communities may experience supply interruptions, however, completing the works overnight will help reduce the impact on homes, businesses and healthcare facilities.
Speaking about the critical nature of the works, Keith Conmy, Water Network Operational Manager, Uisce Éireann, commented: “These works are essential to help protect drinking water supplies for thousands of customers across Dublin. While we recognise that any interruption to water supply is inconvenient, carrying out these works now will help reduce the risk of a major burst and a much more significant unplanned disruption in the future.
“Our teams have been preparing extensively for this complex repair. We'll be working throughout the night to complete the works safely and restore supplies as quickly as possible. We are engaging directly with vulnerable customers and key local stakeholders to help them prepare, and we sincerely thank the communities for their patience and understanding while these important works are carried out.”
Full water supply is expected to return throughout the day on Saturday, 26 September, however those on higher ground or at the end of the network may experience lower pressure or intermittent supply for a number of hours while the network refills.
As supplies return to normal, customers may experience temporary discolouration. This can happen after repairs on the network and is usually resolved by running the cold kitchen tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear. For more information, please customers can visit our Discoloured Water page.
