Water supply restored in Clonmel following disruption

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann wish to apologise for the ongoing water supply challenges for customers in parts of Clonmel.

Uisce Eireann crews worked throughout the night to ensure continued production at the Glenary Water Treatment Plant. This follows the decision to put a Boil Water Notice in place to protect public health due to the intermittent operational issues.

We recognise that many customers are still without water and wish to assure the community that reservoirs are continuing to refill, and supply is being restored to Clonmel and surrounding areas.

It can take some time for normal water supply to return as the network refills and even longer for customers on high ground or at the end of the line. Customers are being asked to be mindful of their water usage and to allow supply to catch up with demand.

Uisce Éireann’s, John Fogarty said: “We acknowledge the impact of unplanned interruptions to the water supply on homes and businesses and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while crews worked to bring the water treatment plant back to full production and restore supply to impacted areas of Clonmel.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Uisce Éireann continues to provide detailed, real-time, and local information about water service and supply issues on our website.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on X @IWCare with any queries. For updates, please visit the Water Supply Updates section of our website.

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann wish to apologise to customers in parts of Clonmel who have been impacted by interruptions to their water supply in recent days.

Although our operations team made progress in resuming water production at Glenary Water Treatment Plant, we continue to experience intermittent challenges with the filtration systems on site. As a result, reservoir levels remain very low and we are not replenishing supply to match demand across parts of the town.

Customers in the following areas may experience low pressure or continued outages until water levels are restored to normal in all reservoirs. Elm Park, Haywood Road, Glenconnor, Cherrymount, Ballingranne, Powerstown Road, Silver Spring, Clonmel Town Centre and surrounding areas.

We are continuing works on site and will continue to provide updates as we make every effort to restore full supply to all customers.

Alternative water supplies remain in place at the following locations:

  • Poppys Field, Cashel Road Clonmel
  • Civil Defence Fire Station, Heywood Road
  • Tesco Car Park, Clonmel By Pass

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per advice from the Health Service Executive.

Uisce Éireann continues to provide detailed, real-time, and local information about water service and supply issues on our website.

“Uisce Éireann would like to apologise to all customers who are experiencing an interruption to their supply and would like to reassure them that we are working hard to resolve the issue.”

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
