Uisce Éireann Thanks the Public for Their Support and Urges Continued Water Conservation

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann would like to extend sincere thanks to communities across the country for their continued support of our national water conservation appeal.

While the rain has returned to many parts of the country this week, unfortunately it does not restore many water supplies following what has been a drier-than-usual winter, spring and summer. We now have 49 supplies across 15 counties in drought status, and the need for conservation remains as critical as ever in those supplies but also in many others across the country.

Uisce Éireann is continuing to monitor all supplies and taking proactive action where required, including tankering water directly to reservoirs or implementing overnight pressure reductions in some areas.

Margaret Attridge, Head of Water Operations at Uisce Éireann, said: “Rainfall may offer short-term respite, but it takes time for our water sources to recover. We are seeing more areas move into drought status even with the changeable weather.  Areas of Cork County, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford are now experiencing low levels of water supply and increasing demand for water. We’re asking everyone to keep up the great work and continue those simple, everyday actions that help conserve water. Every drop saved helps protect our supplies and supports our communities.

We remind the public that small changes can have a big impact:

  • Use a watering can instead of a hose in the garden
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
  • Take shorter showers
  • Only run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads
