Overnight restrictions in Castlecomer area are necessary to ensure daytime supply

Crews advise customers in the Castlecomer area that overnight supply restrictions are required to conserve water and maintain a daytime supply.

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

We advise customers in the Castlecomer area that overnight supply restrictions are required to conserve water and maintain a daytime supply.

Overnight restrictions will be in place from 9 pm until 7 am, until further notice. Homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage to allow supply to catch up with demand and enable water levels to replenish.

Customers in the following areas may experience interruptions to supply, discolouration, or reduced pressure during these times: Clogh, Ardra, Massford, Moneenroe, Coolbawn, Castlecomer and surrounding areas.

We understand the impact water loss has on homes and businesses, and every effort is being made to limit the duration of these restrictions.

Uisce Éireann is committed to addressing the supply challenges and ensuring a safer, more reliable, and more resilient water supply for Castlecomer. Uisce Éireann’s preferred solution is the development of new groundwater sources in Castlecomer at two sites close to the River Dinnin, the first of which is adjacent to the Castlecomer soccer pitch and the other at Ballyhimin.  Groundwater exploration works commenced earlier this year and are due to be completed later this summer.  Following the completion of this exploration phase, Uisce Eireann will then advance the required statutory and regulatory processes, such as land acquisition, planning, and procurement for the new infrastructure necessary to improve Castlecomer’s water supply.

Customers should allow 3-4 hours after the estimated restoration time for the supply to return fully.

Speaking about the restrictions, Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward said: “Due to a significant reduction in available raw water at the water treatment plant, it is difficult to maintain reservoir levels. The levels are monitored daily, and the current restrictions are necessary to ensure a consistent water supply during the daytime. We understand the inconvenience restrictions cause and want to thank the community for their patience.”
