Monaghan customers to feel the benefits as mains replacements begin

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Works have started this week on a programme of water mains replacements in Aughnamullen in Co Monaghan, which will bring a significant improvement in water quality and supply for local communities.

Uisce Éireann crews were on site from Monday morning beginning the process of replacing over 2.5km of aging water mains with new, modern pipes.

The works, once complete, will provide a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water for residents and businesses in the area, as well as reducing the risk of bursts and other operational issues on the network.

Patricia Lowry, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said that these mains replacements will provide real, tangible benefits for customers and communities in Aughnamullen and the surrounding areas.

“As well as an improvement in the quality of water coming from their taps, customers can look forward to a more reliable supply and fewer operational issues such as bursts and leaks on the network,” said Patricia.

“These works will also help us to drive down levels of leakage on the network and to conserve our precious water resources. We wish to thank the local community for their patience and co-operation while these works are underway.”

Areas of work will be limited to short sections at a time to minimise impact on customers and road users. Some traffic management measures will be required, in the form of traffic lights on the R162 and a road closure on the L-30103. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times, however.

The works may also cause some short-term water supply interruptions for customers in the area. The project team will ensure that a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is given to affected residents before any planned outage.

The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and are expected to be completed early next year.

Uisce Éireann continues to deliver a national Leakage Reduction Programme to provide a more reliable water supply, reduce high levels of leakage, improve water quality and create operational efficiencies on the water network. This programme is a strategic and targeted approach to improve the national water network across the country, through a number of leakage reduction work streams prioritising investment where it is needed most.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
