Mallow gearing up for growth as investments close to €2 million to deliver water network upgrade

Uisce Éireann has completed works to replace over one kilometre of water mains in Fair Street, Mallow, Co Cork. Uisce Éireann’s investment of nearly €2 million, saw the installation of new larger, modern pipes which will support future growth and development in the town, including the potential development of 130 new homes. The completion of this vital project will also address bursts and leakage.
James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, welcomed the completion of these works.

That is why in the recent Budget we have increased Uisce Éireann’s funding by almost €500 million for 2026 – money that will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country.”

Uisce Éireann will commence works to replace over one kilometre of water mains in Fair Street, Mallow, Co Cork next week. The new larger, modern pipes will address bursts and leakage and increase the supply capacity of the network, supporting future growth and development in the town known locally as ‘the crossroads of Munster’.

To safely and efficiently deliver this project, works will be carried out in two phases on L-1207 Fair Street, Mallow with some road closures required.
Phase 1:
- Night works will be required at the junction of Main Street with Fair Street for one week beginning Tuesday, 03 June.
- The first road closure will be in place from Monday, 09 June to Tuesday, 01 August. The road will be closed from 7am-7pm (Monday – Thursday), 7am - 6pm (Friday) and open at weekends.
Phase 2:
- A second road closure is planned from Monday, 14 July to Friday, 22 August. The road will be closed from 7am-7pm (Monday – Thursday), 7am - 6pm (Friday) and open at weekends.
To facilitate the safe delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop / go system and traffic lights. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be completed in October 2025.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
