Uisce Éireann has completed the first phase of works to rationalise Adare’s water supply.
This project aims to improve the security and resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses across Adare. Following the successful completion of the first phase, the second phase of works will begin on 08 September 2025.
This first phase of works involved the construction of two kilometres of water main from the Adare reservoir along the N21 and the Adare to Ballingarry regional road, R519.
Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann’s Leakage Reduction Programme Manager, Brian McCarthy said: “We would like to extend our thanks for the support and patience of the local community in Adare while this first phase of works were underway, we understand these works can be inconvenient and our crews made every effort to ensure minimal disruption took place while we completed these essential works as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
This second phase of works will involve the construction of the remaining 7.1 kilometres of water main, which will connect the Adare Network to the Limerick City and Environs Supply Zone. Water main will be laid along the L8022, L4120, L8060 and the N20 to the connection point.
Laura Heneghan, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, continued “This project represents a significant investment in strengthening Adare’s water supply and will not only improve the water supply for over 2,300 customers in the area, but it will also facilitate future growth and development, including the delivery of new housing. We’re grateful to the local community for their patience and support as we carry out the second phase of these essential works.”
The upgrade will also address operational issues for the Adare Water Treatment Plant which is on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Remedial Action List (RAL).
This next phase of works will be delivered by Ward and Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by Q3 2026.
The works may involve some short-term water supply interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
