Glenary water supply upgrade reaches significant milestone
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann is pleased to announce that, following recent essential works on the Glenary water supply network, customers on this supply are now being served directly from the reservoir. The newly completed trunk main connection means customers will benefit from approximately 24-hours of water storage in the event of any future outages at the treatment plant.
This milestone is part of a wider €10 million investment project, which includes a significant upgrade to the water treatment plant currently underway. The project is being delivered by Ward & Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
John Hickey, Programme Manager Uisce Éireann, said: “Works to complete the connection of the existing reservoir to the Glenary WTP via a new 300mm trunk main are complete and we’ll continue to monitor the network over the coming weeks. There may be further adjustments to our processes as we progress but customers on this supply are now being served directly from the reservoir. The newly completed trunk main connection means customers will benefit from up to 24-hours of water storage in the event of any future outages at the treatment plant. The major upgrade of the plant, which is well underway, will further strengthen the resilience of the supply into the future.”
The ongoing plant upgrade involves substantial improvements to the treatment processes, including enhancements to flocculation, and filtration systems. Additional works include the installation of new intake screens, chambers and mixers and a new disinfection upgrade, along with a full upgrade of the plant’s electrical systems and control and monitoring infrastructure.
