Further boost for city as Uisce Éireann continues to unlock Growth and Development
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann will commence major works next week to upgrade the water infrastructure from the Lough to Capwell towards South Douglas Road in Cork City.
Over 4 kilometres of decades-old cast iron water mains will be decommissioned and new larger, modern pipes will be installed. The project will improve water quality, address bursts and leakage and increase the supply capacity of the network to support sustainable growth and development in the Docklands area of the city.
Brian McCarthy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this critical project underway.
“Uisce Éireann continues to invest in strengthening the water supply network in Cork City. This project, along with the upgrade works completed on the South Quays earlier this year, will provide additional capacity to support future residential and commercial development in the Docklands area - enabling the city to thrive.”
“In addition, this is the third significant mains replacement project commenced this year in Cork City, as we continue to address water quality and discolouration reports. Works are already underway in Gurranabraher and on the Douglas Road.”
The works will commence on 23 June and take place in the following areas: Pearse Road, Curragh Road and South Douglas Road. To facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop / go system and localised road closures. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
Details of any supply interruptions associated to this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website. Customers can also contact Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 with any questions about the project.
