Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is pleased to confirm that repair works in the Burnfoot area have now been successfully completed and water supply has been restored to all affected customers.

Following an intensive repair effort over recent days, crews have completed the necessary works and full water supply has now returned to all homes that were impacted by the outage in the Brea Road, Garvary, Gortcormican and Inch Island areas.

Uisce Éireann's Damien O’Sullivan thanked customers and local communities for their patience, understanding and support throughout the incident.

“We would like to sincerely thank our customers in Burnfoot, Buncrana, Inch Island and the surrounding areas for the patience, support and understanding they have shown while our crews worked to restore supply.

"We recognise the significant inconvenience that water outages cause to homes and businesses, and we are grateful for the cooperation shown by the community throughout this challenging repair effort. Thanks to the dedication of our crews on the ground, repairs have now been completed, and water supply has been restored to all affected customers."

As water supply returns to normal, some customers, particularly those at the end of the network or on higher ground, may experience a short delay before normal water pressure is fully restored as the system continues to recharge.

Customers who continue to experience issues with their water supply are encouraged to contact Uisce Éireann's customer care team, which is available 24/7 on 1800 278 278.

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann is pleased to confirm that the majority of homes affected by an outage in the Burnfoot area have a full water supply this morning.

Following an intensive repair effort, supply was restored to approximately 40 of the 50 affected customers in the Brea Road, Garvary and Gortcormican areas last night.

Crews remain on site this morning and continue to work to restore water supply to the remaining ten homes on Inch Island.

An alternative water supply is available at Food Guru fast-food takeaway in Burnfoot. The tanker will remain in place until all customers have their normal water supply restored. Customers are reminded to use their own containers and boil the water before use.

Uisce Éireann’s Damien O’Sullivan thanked the Burnfoot, Buncrana and wider communities for their patience and support throughout the outage in recent days and assured those continuing to experience a disruption to supply that crews are making every effort to return water as soon as possible.

“We know how disruptive it is to be without water, and we would like to thank the Burnfoot, Buncrana and surrounding communities for the patience and support they have shown throughout this incident. Our crews continue to work tirelessly to complete the repairs and restore supply to all those affected.”

Once repairs are completed, it may take a number of hours for the water supply to return to all properties, particularly for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground, as the system gradually recharges.

Uisce Éireann crews continue to work to restore a water supply to approximately 50 homes in the Brea Road, Garvary and Gortcormican areas of Burnfoot following a significant burst and subsequent pump failures.

Following the major burst, two essential pumps failed creating additional challenges in restoring supplies to all affected customers. Throughout the weekend, crews have worked tirelessly to repair or replace equipment and minimise the impact on the local community. The majority of customers had water restored over the weekend, but a number of customers continue to be affected.

As part of our efforts, Uisce Éireann put an alternative water supply in place at Food Guru fast food takeaway, Burnfoot to ensure affected customers could access water while repairs are underway. The alternative supply will remain in place until normal supplies have been fully restored. Customers are reminded to bring their own containers and to boil the water before use.

Uisce Éireann’s Damien O’Sullivan thanked customers for their patience and understanding and assured the community that every effort is being made to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. He expects a full water supply to be restored to customers later this evening.

"We understand how difficult it is for customers to be without water, particularly after what has already been a challenging weekend for many households. Our crews have been working continuously to restore supplies and support the affected community.

"The pump failures occurred after a major trunk main burst. While the majority of homes had their water supply restored once the burst was repaired, approximately 50 homes remain affected. We expect repairs to be completed later today, with supplies returning to customers this evening.

"We would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation while these essential repairs are carried out. Providing an alternative water supply and maintaining regular communication with customers has remained a priority throughout the incident."

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
