Burst water main repairs tonight on the N71, Bandon Road

Uisce Éireann crews are responding to a significant burst to a water main on the N71, Bandon Rd, County Cork that occurred yesterday evening. The repair is complicated due to its location and traffic volumes. A traffic management plan has been agreed and will be in place from 8pm this evening.  

Crews will be working from 8pm, through the night, to carry out the repairs. Customers in Bandon Road, Waterfall and surrounding areas may experience disruptions to their water supply. 
Works are estimated to be completed by 5am (Saturday). 

Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all affected customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.  

Alternative water supplies

To support customers alternative water supplies are in place, with a water tanker available, at St James Cemetery/Chetwynd. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
 
Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: “Due to the nature of this burst and its location, a traffic management plan had to be agreed with the relevant authorities to prioritise the safety of the repair crew, road users, and the general public. Our crews are now scheduled to start repair works this evening from 8pm. Repair works are due to be completed by 5am; however, it may take a number of hours for water pressure to return to normal at higher elevations.”
