Uisce Éireann acknowledges the concerns and representations shared by the community and recognises the impact that unplanned water supply disruptions can have on households and businesses in the area.
Water mains rehabilitation
With the assessment of need and preliminary design completed, the next step is Site Investigation (SI) works which are due to be carried out next week. These works will inform the detailed design and determine the construction methodology which will allow the final project scope to be formally confirmed.
Uisce Éireann will then arrange a community information briefing in advance of construction commencement. This engagement is expected to take place within the next four to six weeks.
Construction is currently envisaged to commence in mid‑Q2 2026 and to be completed by the end of July 2026. This timeframe is indicative and cannot be fully guaranteed at this stage. The overall project timeline remains subject to dependencies including the progression of other projects on the regional programme.
Unplanned outages
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the area and respond to bursts and to mobilise repair crews to minimise supply disruptions to the customers.
For unplanned outages, Uisce Éireann immediately investigates the source of the burst and works as a matter of priority to repair the water main and restore normal water supply as quickly and as safely as possible. Following repairs, supply is typically restored within three to four hours, though it may take longer for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
Due to the nature of the water main network, sometimes a repair of a burst can be followed by another burst on the same line. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience caused by supply disruptions and appreciates the community’s patience while crews work to restore supply when an unplanned outage occurs.
Please note, it is recommended that all businesses maintain a contingency plan that includes a minimum of 24 hours of backup water supply to ensure continuity of operations during water outages – as per best practice.
