Standards & Specifications

Check below if you have a question about Uisce Éireann's Standards & Specifications

Uisce Éireann’s Standard & Specification define the technical requirements and best practices for designing, constructing, and maintaining water and wastewater infrastructure in Ireland. They ensure consistency, safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.

All designers, contractors, developers, and consultants working on Uisce Éireann infrastructure projects must adhere to the relevant Uisce Éireann Standards & Specifications. The use of the Standard Details is mandatory.

The latest versions are available on the Uisce Éireann website or through our internal document management system. Always ensure you are referencing the current version.

  • A standard sets out general principles, performance criteria, and design guidance.
  • A specification provides detailed technical requirements for materials, components, and construction processes.

They are reviewed on a rolling basis and updated based on emerging technology, regulatory changes, lessons learned, and stakeholder feedback. Updates are communicated via our News section on the Uisce Éireann website.

Refer to the project scope and asset type. Use the applicable Asset Class Guidance and consult with Uisce Éireann’s Asset Management or Engineering teams if in doubt.

Deviation from the requirements of the Standard Details is not allowed without the prior written approval of Uisce Éireann. Any proposed deviation from the Standard Details must be submitted using our Derogation Application Form on the Uisce Éireann website. Deviations cannot proceed without written approval.
