We are investing in the water and wastewater infrastructure needed to support new homes, sustainable growth and thriving communities across Ireland.
We have identified 72 cities, towns and villages across Ireland as priority locations for investment to help unlock new homes and support growing communities. These locations will benefit from the Government’s additional €2 billion in ring-fenced funding under the National Development Plan to support housing growth. This is in addition to the €10.2 billion investment programme for 2025-2029, which supports environmental compliance, public health, resilience, asset renewal and the delivery of safe and secure water and wastewater services nationwide.
The programme includes €1.7 billion for priority growth locations and €300 million for rural communities, providing the infrastructure needed to support housing delivery and enable communities to realise their development potential. Together, these investments will help ensure Uisce Éireann can support the Government's target of delivering 300,000 new homes by 2030.
Prioritising capacity where it is needed most
We have identified an initial 72 locations for focused investment following detailed assessments of national, regional and local development plans.
These locations include cities, regional growth centres and towns with significant housing demand and growth potential. Targeted investment in these areas will sit alongside continued investment in water and wastewater infrastructure across the country.
Working with partners to support housing delivery
Our plans have been informed by extensive engagement with key stakeholders, including local authorities, housing bodies, the Land Development Agency, developers and industry representatives.
This engagement helps ensure investment is aligned with housing need, reflects the latest information on housing delivery and identifies opportunities to accelerate infrastructure provision where appropriate.
We will continue to work closely with Government, State agencies, local authorities and industry partners as projects progress. All projects remain subject to governance, planning and statutory approval processes.
