Supply Returning to Customers in Ballina
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Water supply is returning to customers in Ballina and surrounding areas following an operational issue at the local water treatment plant.
Uisce Éireann crews worked to restore production at the plant and return water to the network. Significant progress has been made, and supplies are now returning to customers in Ballina.
Customers in Newport Town and surrounding areas may continue to experience interruptions to water supply, intermittent outages and reduced water pressure as the network recovers. While water supply is expected to be restored to customers in Newport later this evening, some customers may continue to experience disruptions until tomorrow morning while the network recharges and local reservoirs refill.
We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are for customers, particularly for families, businesses, farming communities and vulnerable customers, and we would like to thank the community for its patience and cooperation while crews worked to restore supplies.
To support customers while the network continues to recover, alternative water supplies remain available at the following locations:
- Newport Town: Opposite Sullivan's Pub on Main Street and Cork Road at Glencree Housing Estate
- Ballina: Adjacent to the car park at Ballina Riverside Pool
Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water from tankers and to boil the water before consumption.
Uisce Éireann's Pierce Faherty thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
"We are pleased that water supply is now returning to customers in Ballina and surrounding areas. Our crews have worked tirelessly to restore normal operations at the treatment plant and return water supplies to affected customers as quickly and safely as possible."
"We recognise the significant inconvenience caused by this unplanned outage and sincerely thank customers for their patience and support.”
As water returns to the network, it may take time for treated water reservoirs to refill and for normal supply to be fully restored to all customers. Customers at the end of the network and those on higher ground may experience a longer restoration period as the system gradually recharges.

Previous Updates
Work is continuing this evening to bring water supplies back to normal for families, businesses and farming communities across Newport and the surrounding areas.
Following an operational issue at the local water treatment plant, crews have made significant progress throughout the day and remain on site this evening, doing everything possible to restore supplies safely and minimise disruption for customers.
Homes and businesses in Birdhill, Ballina, Ballinahinch, Newport Town and surrounding areas may continue to experience interruptions to their water supply, or outages this evening and into tomorrow. It’s expected that all those affected will have a full water supply tomorrow evening.
We know how disruptive it is to be without water, particularly for families, businesses and vulnerable customers, and we want to assure the community that every effort is being made to return supplies as quickly and safely as possible.
To help support customers while repairs continue, alternative water supplies remain available at three locations:
• Newport Town: Opposite Sullivan’s Pub on Main Street and Cork Road at Glencree Housing Estate
• Ballina: Adjacent to carpark at Ballina Riverside pool
Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water from tankers and to boil the water before consumption.
Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty has thanked those affected for their patience.
“We understand the impact this outage is having on the community, and we sincerely thank customers for their understanding. Our crews have been working continuously since the issue occurred and will remain on site until repairs are completed and water supply is fully restored.
“While we had hoped to have supply restored sooner, the works required are taking longer than originally expected. We know this news will be disappointing for customers and we want to reassure them that restoring water supply remains our absolute priority.”
Repair works are continuing, and once completed, water will begin to return to the network. However, it may take some time for treated water reservoirs to refill and for normal supply to be fully restored to all customers. Properties at the end of the network and those on higher ground may experience a longer restoration period as the system gradually recharges.
