Major water network upgrade to support Cherrywood’s growing community

Homes and businesses in the Cherrywood area of south County Dublin are set to benefit from a more secure and resilient water supply as we begin work to upgrade the local water network.

This €2.6 million investment will strengthen the water network, increase capacity and improve resilience to support both existing customers and the future growth planned for the area. As Cherrywood continues to develop, these upgrades will help ensure local families, businesses and future communities have the reliable water services they need for years to come.

The works, which form part of Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme, involve the upgrade of 220 metres of water mains.

The project will support the delivery of approximately 3,300 new homes, while also helping to facilitate wider social and economic growth in the area. By increasing capacity and improving connectivity across the network, the upgrade will provide greater flexibility to manage water supplies and help maintain reliable, sustainable, high-quality water services for Cherrywood into the future.

Works will take place on the south side of Cherrywood Business Park and on Brides Glen Road.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD welcomed the works, saying:   

“This water network upgrade for Cherrywood is part of sustained investment to modernise water infrastructure and deliver real, positive outcomes for the local community.  It will ensure a robust and reliable water supply for the area, which local homes and businesses can rely on.  

“It will also support future development and growth, by putting in place the right infrastructure for Cherrywood to continue thriving as a place to live and work. 

“I commend Uisce Éireann on the rollout of these upgrade works and the progress being made to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce leakage in Cherrywood and right across the country.” 

Commenting on the project, Michael McManus, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “This project is an important step in supporting the continued growth of the Cherrywood area and ensuring the local network can meet future demand. The installation of new water mains will increase capacity and help provide the infrastructure needed to support new homes and sustainable development.”

A short section of Brides Glen Road, R116, between Mullinastill Road and the M50, will be closed for the duration of the project. We know road closures can be disruptive, particularly for local residents, businesses and people travelling through the area. We’ll work to keep disruption to a minimum and will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd. and are expected to be completed in early 2027.
