Laying the groundwork for future homes in Summerhill

A major infrastructure project that will help unlock future housing development in Sligo Town is set to get underway in Summerhill this month.

The investment will increase capacity in the local network, helping to support new homes and future growth in one of the town's key development areas.

The works involve the installation of almost 1km of new water main along the Caltragh Road and Circular Road, from the Crozon Roundabout to Summerhill College.

Commenting on the investment in Sligo, Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Having the right infrastructure in place is essential to supporting new homes and thriving communities. This project will increase capacity within the local water network, helping to support future housing development in Summerhill and the wider Sligo area while ensuring the network can continue to meet the needs of existing and future customers."

The project will be delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans and is expected to be complete in Spring 2027.

To minimise disruption, works will be carried out in short sections with traffic management in place where required. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times and works will take place between 9am and 7pm, Monday to Friday.

The project forms part of Uisce Éireann's Accelerated Growth Programme, which is delivering key water and wastewater infrastructure projects in areas where growth and development are planned. The new water main will help ensure the local water network has the capacity required to support future development and growing communities.
