Strengthening Julianstown and Stamullen water supply to support growth

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Construction is set to begin next week on a major project in Julianstown and Stamullen that will strengthen the local water network and enable additional capacity to support new homes and future development.

This €15 million investment will see approximately 8.5km of water mains installed, improving the resilience and performance of the network while helping to meet the needs of these growing communities.

This investment by Uisce Éireann will play a vital role in supporting the community – making it possible to deliver 2,000 new homes and ensuring the area can grow sustainably into the future. It will improve the supply capacity of the existing water network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, welcomed the €15 million investment in Meath.

“This project which will support the development of much needed homes in Meath. We have to get shovels in the ground and water pipes are so crucial to that. The increased funding that I have allocated to the work of Uisce Éireann will speed getting key water mains laid. All of this is about supporting more homes being built for this area in Meath.”

Michael McManus, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann, welcomed the commencement of works: “We are delighted to get construction underway on this important upgrade. As the area continues to grow, investment in water infrastructure is essential to ensure communities have the services they need both now and into the future.

“Strengthening and expanding the overall water network in the area will mean customers benefit from a more reliable water supply. This is a significant investment in infrastructure that will serve the community for many years to come.”

Works involve the installation of approximately 6km of new water main from Pilltown Road to Balloy Reservoir and the replacement of approximately 2.5km of watermain in Julianstown along the R132 and L5621.

From next week, our crews will commence the first phase of works on the R132, on the north side of Julianstown near Pilltown Road. To facilitate the works safely, a two-way traffic management system will be in place during this phase.

We understand that works of this nature can cause inconvenience, and crews will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local community while these essential works are carried out.

The project will be delivered in phases on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities. The main construction works are expected to take approximately 12 months to complete, with resurfacing works to follow in early 2028.
